ETS Charleston Field Trip

29 Educational Talent Search girls from Charlton County High School, Claxton High School, Tattnall County High School and Ware County High School went on a two day field trip to Charleston, South Carolina, July 17 and 18th.  ETS Director, Carolyn Blackshear, and ETS counselors Nita Baker, Juan Johnson, Mordena Richardson and Patti White accompanied them.  They first toured the South Carolina Aquarium and had a very exciting 4D movie that included getting alittle wet when the whale jumped out of the water on the screen.  Many of the girls had not seen anything like that including all the counselors.  They spent the night at the Wingate by Wyndam and had a fabulous breakfast.  The next morning they had an educational tour of the beautiful campus of Charleston Southern University.  Many of the students had not been out of the state of Georgia before.  A great time was had by all.  Now we are getting ready for another exciting 2 day field trip to Brunswick to tour the University of Coastal GA and go to the GA Sea Turtle Center at Jekyll Island on July 24th and 25th.  Counselors Nita Baker and Juan Johnson will be on the Brunswick trip.  A training workshop put on by SAEOPP (Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnell) will be attended by Carolyn Blackshear, ETS Director, and Mordena Richardson, counselor from the Reidsville office and Patti White, counselor from the Waycross office from July 23rd to July 25th in New Orleans, LA.  There they will learn strategies to implement a rigorous curriculum, tracking students through college and dealing with military connected students.  School starts in most counties August 6th so the counselors and students are getting ready to start a new year.
