Our 51st annual meeting was held November 4, 2016. Attendees heard wonderful words of encouragement, commitment to the members of our communities, and recognition of the need for all of us to come together in our efforts to seek real change. We were privileged to have Congressman Earl L. “Buddy” Carter as our keynote speaker. Congressman Carter is serving his first term in the United States House of Representatives and is a member of the Education and the Workforce Committee as well as the Committees on Homeland Security and Oversight and Government Reform. Congressman Carter’s sincere words of encouragement and his career experiences were both uplifting and entertaining.

Additional speakers included County Administrators from Charlton, Candler, Bulloch, and Appling counties, CSI program directors and leadership, board members, and our Executive Director. Each speaker echoed the need for collaboration between community partners and pledged a commitment to improving the communities in which they serve.

A presentation of the CSI Community Action Award of Excellence was made to the Appling County Board of Commissioners. This group was instrumental in garnering financial and community support for the construction of a new facility which will house both Pre-K facilities and a senior center. This unique combination will provide an opportunity for both groups to form relationships.

All attendees were captivated by the incredible musical performance of Reverend Leon Mack throughout the banquet. The program was followed by a delicious meal provided by Sarah’s in the City of Baxley, GA. The annual banquet gave everyone an opportunity to reflect on the positive work that has been done, and also renewed our spirits to continue with the work that is left to do.
