1,050 youth in grades 6 – 12, graduates, GED recipients
and college stop-outs in the Altamaha and Southeast

young people to better understand their educational
opportunities and options so that they may continue
their education beyond high school.
The major goals of the Educational Talent Search Program
are:
1. To identify qualified youths who are low-income and
potential first-generation college students and to
encourage them to complete high school and enroll in
post-secondary education (vocational – technical or
college);
2. To publicize the availability of student financial
assistance available to persons who wish to pursue a
program of post-secondary education;
3. To encourage person who have not completed programs
of education at the secondary or post-secondary level to
re-enter these programs.
In addition to academic and other counseling,
participants receive information about college
admissions requirements, scholarships, SAT preparation,
fee-waivers, career choices, and various student
financial aid programs. Agency ETS Counselors are
available in target area schools to assist in filling
out appropriate papers and documents to ensure a
successful student. These services include follow-up
during school attendance and after high school
graduation. Funding is directly from the U. S.
