Nutrition Program for the Elderly

Home Delivered Meals

The Home Delivered Meals Program (HDM) is designed to provide temporary or permanent homebound elderly persons with at least one-third (1/3) of their recommended daily nutritional requirements by delivering a hot, nutritious meal to the elderly in their own home Monday through Friday. Frozen meals are also available to clients for night, weekend, and holiday meals. In addition to the meals, our elderly clients are provided other supportive services such as information and referral, nutrition education, friendly visiting, diet counseling, and transportation. The Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Aging Services, through the Heart of Georgia Altamaha Area Agency on Aging, funds the program. United Way, various city and county governments, local churches, civic clubs, and private donations help to enhance this program. Congregate Meals

This program brings together senior citizens sixty (60) years of age or older into a multi-purpose senior center where they enjoy various activities and receive noonday meals five days a week. Frozen meals are also available to clients for night, weekend, and holiday meals. In addition to meals, the program also offers transportation, information sessions, referral services, home management, housing assistance, escort services, telephone reassurance, nutrition education, individual diet counseling, recreational activities, arts and crafts, friendly visiting, shopping assistance, and various field trips.
