Mother’s Day came early to Evans CSI’s Service Center. The 22 ladies at the Evans senior center received gift bags with a scarf and hand lotion, and everyone enjoyed food treats brought in to supplement their standard fare. In addition, First African Missionary Baptist Church furnished cupcakes and ice-cream to make the celebration even sweeter.

Asked how the guests of honor react to being the center of attention, County Coordinator Sandra Boggs said, “The ladies love it!”

Boggs purchases Mother’s Day gifts and gift bags each year with money donated by the men who attend the center (and Boggs’ own contribution). She said the Mother’s Day celebration has been a tradition at the center ever since the idea for it came to her six years ago in a moment of inspiration.

In addition to the individual gifts, Boggs purchases special Bingo prizes for the Mother’s Day celebration and even makes a grand-prize Bingo gift basket, which contains treats worth a total of $25.00. Boggs said the price of admission to this special bingo bash is $1.00 per person. This money goes into the center’s donation box for its Nutrition Program – so everybody wins!
