Nutritional health enhances children’s ability to concentrate and learn. The goal of the nutritional services component is to improve the nutritional health of all children and families through nutritional assessments, counseling, and nutrition education for the entire family. The CSI Head Start program provides nutritious meals – breakfast, lunch and snacks. All menus are developed in accordance with USDA guidelines. Accommodations are made for children with special dietary needs.

Nutrition Assessments & Counseling

Nutrition assessment and counseling services are offered to families under the direction and care of our Nutrition Specialist. Assessment and nutrition counseling services are offered to parents of any child at nutritional risk. This includes children who require any therapeutic diet or are underweight, overweight or anemic.

Nutrition Education for Families & Children

Nutrition workshops are offered for CSI Head Start program families. The purpose of nutritional workshops is to educate families about the importance of nutrition and show parents how to offer nutritious food choices for their families. Also, nutrition education is included into the classroom curriculum and discussed as part of the daily lesson plan.

CSI Head Start program and Women, Infants and Children (WIC) collaborate to share the goal of providing nutrition education. Together, we encourage proper nutrition practices for children and their families.

I am Moving, I am Learning

CSI Head Start program enhances our curriculum with the I am Moving, I am Learning program to promote more physical activity in the classrooms and children’s home. The program also promotes healthier food choices to help combat childhood obesity.
